Why is the Word 'Mexico' Banned From Your Resume?The ban on certain words is nothing new, although it is now a growing trend as more businesses want to employ more people and keep them in the company. Many of these types of companies have started to implement new computer software that will be able to find the banned words within a resume and, if it finds the words, then it will then delete the word or words. It then will put you into the match made in heaven.This may sound like a good idea and is, but it is not a proven way of getting anyone to read your resume. We will look at why. Let us start by looking at why certain words are banned and why this is a problem. We will discuss this below in detail, but, first, let us look at why a resume is a necessary piece of documentation.The first reason to be banned is because the language used by an employer is specific to a particular situation. For example, if an employer is looking for a sales or service-oriented candidate for a particul ar position, then it is not likely that the language used by that particular employee will be acceptable to the job owner. If, for example, the employer is looking for someone who can write in Spanish then this is not likely to be acceptable to the business owner. Therefore, it is not only a waste of time to have to deal with a resume that is not acceptable to the business. This is why the word 'Mexico' is not allowed.If you go back a few years ago, you might have seen how employers refused to hire individuals who wrote about such things as gambling or the odd bad idea. They do not want a threat that this person is also going to be looking for work.The next reason to be banned is the one that is often the problem with many employers today. Now, the words 'able to'capable of' are banned. It is a word that is very specific, meaning that the employer is very specific that the job opening can only be filled by someone with the skills and training to fill the position.The combination of these two factors mean that it is a much better idea to have a written language that is specific to a particular job. This can be done by, for example, having the keywords that are relevant to the position used in the resume writing, rather than the general keywords that are already being used by other employers.People also seem to believe that having a list of the good and the bad is a good idea. I know it is, but this is not a proven way of getting anyone to read your resume. As you can see, there are a lot of reasons why certain words and phrases are banned from the resume.
